New Projects in Chamanculo C, Maputo

Carbon Sink is proud to announce the registration of two new Gold Standard cookstove projects in Mozambique: “Improved Cookstoves in Chamanculo C, Maputo (Mozambique) phase II and III (GS4611 and GS4612)”. Since 2014 the collaboration between these Italian based groups has resulted in over 10.000 fuel efficient cookstoves distributed in the poor districts of Maputo helping the local families to achieve better air quality and significant economic saving through reduced amount of charcoal needed for daily cooking activities. At the same time, the projects have a positive impact on climate as less GHG emissions are released during the combustion of the charcoal. The collaboration, between the three Italian groups, has already produced 4 registered projects only in Mozambique, a number that is destined to increase in the future.

Carbon Sink è liera di annunciare la registrazione dei due nuovi progetti Gold Standard in Mozambico: “Improved Cookstoves in Chamanculo C, Maputo (Mozambique) phase II and III (GS4611 e GS4612)”. 

Dal 2014 la collaborazione tra AVSI, Cloros e Carbon Sink ha reso possibile la distribuzione di più di 10.000 stufe nei distretti poveri di Maputo, aiutando le famiglie locali a migliorare la qualità dell’aria e a risparmiare significative cifre  economiche riducendo l’utilizzo del carbone, usato giornalmente per cucinare. 

Allo stesso tempo, il progetto ha un impatto positivo sul clima, con la riduzione delle emissioni di gas effetto serra causati dall’uso del carbone. La collaborazione, tra i tre gruppi italiani, ha dato luogo già a 4 progetti registrati solo in Mozambico, numero che è destinato a crescere.

The annual monitoring activities have now been completed in the project area of Chamanculo C district! 

In line with the Gold Standard registered monitoring plan, the field team visited and interviewed more than 100 project families using the efficient stoves. Based on the second annual monitoring, we can tell that the families are always fulfilled with their efficient stoves. Therefore, we can say that the whole project is proceeding in the best way.
Monitoring permits to verify the actual situation in the project area and, consequently, to quantify the CO2 reductions is to be achieved by the project. As a next project step, the monitoring report will be verified by Gold Standard after which the second tranche of the carbon credits of the project will be ready for the issuance!

Le attività di monitoraggio svolte annualmente sono terminate anche per il secondo anno. Sono state intervistate 100 famiglie che hanno preso parte al progetto “Improved Cookstoves”.

Le famiglie sono tutt'ora soddisfatte ed il progetto procede nel migliore dei modi. Questo permetterà di attestare la reale riduzione di CO₂ del progetto. Solo rispettando queste metodologie ufficiali, che prevedono rigorosi controlli, è possibile ottenere crediti di carbonio certificati da Gold Standard.
